LECALES ARTICLE (nicky Henderson)

Lecales article won a ptp very easily in 2018 before being purchased for £320,000 to go into training with nicky Henderson, not seen on the track he has obviously had his issues, however he is now back in training, he is very likely to be going straight over hurdles and may make an immediate impact, the way in which he won his ptp and travelled well throughout leads me to believe that he could potentially be very useful, imo a trip of 2 and a half miles is where he may well be suited best, it shouldnt be long before we see him in the entries. Below are some quotes about lecales article

“It’s what dreams are made of,” beamed the delighted 25-year-old. “I always thought a lot of him from the moment I saw him as a three-year-old and he has been so easy to do everything with but then the good ones always are.”

Minton said: “He’s for a new client with Nicky who is on his way home from the races at Kempton,” Minton revealed.

“Nicky saw him at Goffs this morning before flying back to the UK and he loved him. He has such presence about him. Nicky has a couple by Malinas in training and he likes the sire. My wife bred the dam, so it’s a family that I’m quite familiar with, but I loved this horse.”

Cut the mustard was on an upwards curve for willie Mullins in mares novice chases, imo the minimum trip of 2 miles is what she requires, with imo the form that she has currently achieved likely to be under rated, now a handicap rating will be achieved, I do think she has all the attributes to win a nice pot in a handicap chase over 2 miles, the grand annual at the cheltenham festival may well be the long term target, with opportunities also available before and after, I dont think we have seen the ceiling of her yet, and I will be interested to see where paul Nicholls decides to send her, she may even go up in trip in the near future, with the aim to drop back down to 2 miles and win a big pot of a fair to lenient handicap mark before the season is out.

SIR SHOLOKOV (harry whittington)

Was a winner of a ptp at mainstown winning by a head he stayed on very gamely in the closing stages over 3 miles. Before subsequently being purchased for £80,000 by munir/ souede.

What interests me is that he now has an entry over 2 miles, i I wouldn’t be keen on him over the minimum distance, however 3 runs at between 2 and w and a half miles would see him given a handicap mark of which would very likely underestimate his ability once seen at staying trips, I did like the way he stuck at the task, so I wouldnt personally be dissapointed by rhe winning margjne of which he may be beaten over the shorter trip.
He has recently had wind surgery and would look to be running shortly, he is one worth following long term imo.

Ahorsewithnoname Has hanged Trainer from Brian Ellison to Nicky Henderson

She has ran in 6 races on the level, winning her last 2. At Catterick she readily dispatched wolf prince by 4L giving away 4 pounds, wolf prince on the pick of his form has subsequently been 2nd in 3 fairly weak grade 2s over hurdles, which is a very fair level.
Ahorsewithnoname duly followed up in her next start at thirsk.

She currently has an entry one of which is straight in to listed level of where she would look an unlikely runner, taking to account that nico de boinville is jocked up on the very useful mrs hyde.

However this is notable of future aspirations, she may well be useful and worth following in the near future of where she is entered up elsewhere. the mares novice hurdle at the cheltenham festival, would look the logical long term target.

Haut en coleurs won on his juvenile hurdling debut at Auteuil he travelled very well in midfield during the opening stages before taking a slightly note prominent roll in tracking the leaders, while all the time travelling well within himself and jumping fluently, 2 from home it was evident that himself and swiss guard were a class apart, they both powered clear from the field to fight it out between them, with haut coleurs just getting the better of the battle, 15L clear of the remaining field. The pair looked very useful.

What is interesting is that the 3rd from the race, beaten 15L , followed up on his next start, and then went and won a grade 2 all within the space of 5 weeks . The 4th has finished 2nd since, with even the 8th winning a minor race at Argentan

Haut en coleurs has himself moved to ireland at the end of last month where he is almost certain to be seen in juvenile hurdles on these shores, he will not retain his novice status for next season. So is one to follow for the immediate future over here, where the likes of the triumph hurdle, would seem the logical target.

BOB OLINGER (henry de bromhead)

Bob olinger was likely beaten by a pretty useful horse in champion bumper winner FERNY hollow on hurdles debut. This was over 2 miles, and 2 and a half miles may well be where bob olinger could come into his own over hurdles, it was hard not to be impressed by both his ptp and his NHF wins, where he won with a minimum of fuss, I’m sure connections have left plenty to work on, and wont be too disappointed at all with his seasonal debut, i would expect to see him up in trip sooner than later, where in the not too distant future the grade 1 over 2 and a half miles of which envoi allen won last year at Naas, may well be where he steps up in grade, with the ballymore Novices hurdle potentially looking a target at the Cheltenham festival.

Irascible won on debut finishing his race very well in the closing stages of the 2 mile contest to beat a well fancied and likely uselful stablemate in decimation.
He looked like a step up in trip may see considerable improvement in the future, however, right now he was somewhat green on his 1st start, and he may not be moving up in trip straight away.

They are two nice horses and the winner has always worked like a nice horse. I thought he’d need the run for experience but he picked up really well.

“He was just about ready to run in a bumper when we went into lockdown but he is a great jumper and I’m delighted with that.

“Decimation is a very nice as well and I don’t think he did a whole lot wrong to be fair.

They both worked like nice horses and Decimation obviously had the run under his belt and I thought Irascible would need the run and he didn’t and Dylan (Robinson) gave him a great ride.

“Irascible could go for a rated novice next and he might even be entitled to go for an open novice but we’ll chat to Michael and Eddie (O’Leary) and see.”

It will be interested to see what he does up in grade, he may not be openly popular at the moment, however a win is in grade would see him well noticed.

The big breakaway Has already made his chase debut where he stayed on well to victory in the closing stages without a challenger in sight. He jumped cleanly throughout, and there was never a moment’s worry that he was going to fall,
His run in the ballymore last season when staying on well just out of the places, showed that a step up in trip had to be on the cards, and he has taken that within his stride on his novice chase debut.
He will be going up in grade in the near future, and would look to be a likely runner in the kauto star Novices chase over christmas, should he win that race, he would be the likely market leader for the RSA chase at the Cheltenham festival. He is sure to be popular, and it will be interesting to see how he fares at the top level, once he meets the Irish challengers in march.

Tower bridge Has reverted back to hurdles and recently ran in pertemps qualifier, where he finished 4th off a mark of 145 and qualified for the final itself. He was held right up and looked to achieve nothing other than that qualifying position and the sole aim to retain his current handicap mark.

If you look back at his previous hurdles form, he has a solid 5th in the Albert Bartlett Novices hurdle where he wasnt far at all behind subsequent gold cup 2nd santini. He followed this up at aintree again finishing a close staying on 3rd behind the aforementioned santini.

The pertemps final is very obviously his target, and he is sure to be popular to win the final itself.

He disappointed last year after a run over 2 and a half miles on heavy ground, it looked as if that was a plan with a subsequent entry and declaration in a 2mile hurdle with a handicap mark achieved, well backed, however he went out like a light there.
The break seems to have done him the world of good and he made an impressive chase debut over 2miles, where the arkle has been mooted, and I agree that 2 miles is his trip. he is currently an unexposed 16/1 chance for that race.

Walsh said: “He jumped brilliant and he was out-jumping Rachael (Blackmore, on favourite Captain Guinness) and I was taking him back over the first four fences.

“After that I said ‘this lad is winging’ so I just let him go and he loved it. He was very quick over his fences and makes lengths at them so you’d have to be delighted with that.

“He is a half-brother to Great Field so hopefully he’ll go the same way and win a few of those good races.”

Confident quotes so will be interesting to see how he gets on.

KESKONRISK (Joseph O’Brien) Mike grech

Keskonrisk won a bumper at fairyhouse, easily beating subsequent winner Favori De Champdou with the now very useful novice hurdler Gabynako back in 3rd place. He travelled very well throughout took it up at halfway, when asked to go again he duly obliged to but a distance of 4L between himself and FDC.

“I think he’s a good horse this fella, he has a lot of speed and he’s very well bred too,. That’s Daniel’s first winner and he’s in fifth year at school. Most of my horses I sell them, so we’ll see now. I think he’s pretty good. He’s well schooled and jumped like a buck around here one day over hurdles. He’s a good looking individual and a grand easy mover”
 T E Hyde, trainer

He has since changed hands and been purchased by mike grech for £370,000. Now with Joseph O’Brien, his potential is there to see, and big things are expected of him this season over obstacles.

SAINT SAM (w p mullins)

He has won his last 2 hurdle races, winning at dieppe, then following up at Clairefontaine, firstly at dieppe he beat shentry by just over 1L who has been subsequently 2nd over here for dan skelton.

At Clairefontaine saint sam settled in midfield held together, once ridden turning in, he went over and made use of the rail to stay on best of all and win going away from Piriac and subsequent winner horse maha.

Saint sam has since joined willie Mullins and will be shortly attempted to win his 3rd race on the bounce, and what would be his 1st juvenile hurdle win in ireland.

I I wouldn’t be surprised if he was popular in the triumph hurdle market in the coming days,

On the form itself, Imo horse maha was held up way too far back off the pace, to be given a clear view at his hurdles after falling the time before, he was learning on the job here, and was made much more use of next time.

PAROS (NJH/MPR) Paris has been bought as a triumph hurdle prospect for middleham park racing and sent to nicky Henderson, he has ran once at dieppe beating jeu de paume and hacker des places now of Paul Nicholls.

PAROS jumped well, took up the running, built a small lead when kicking for home off the bend and the horses behind couldn’t get to him, he won comfortably. If you was picky, he had the run of the race out front, and wasn’t really bothered, but maybe he possessed the pace that they didn’t . Paros is a nice prospect for the season ahead, but Triumph hurdle fav. NOT FOR ME. However with just the 1 run he is open to improvement, and with the fee that he commanded and the trainers record in the race, I make him one to follow in the fact that it will be interesting to see if he can back up his debut win and get off the board over here. I think with 1 run it may have been slightly harsh if I put him up as one to avoid. So let’s give him the chance to prove me wrong.

PRUNAY has been purchased privately to go to Ireland. he chased home the comfortable winning Mica Malpic (JP McManus) and was just 7.5L behind what was generally considered to be the leading french juvenile MAGNETO in the Prix Aguado on his next start. PRUNAY has runs in the bank and has been consistent behind nice horses, running to a good level. This could see him forgotten about and subsequently he could well get into the fred winter near the bottom of the weights, depending ofcourse on what they decide to do on his 1st start over here. Imo he’s one to look out for in that regard rather than a proposition to back on debut over here. A handicap mark in the low 130s is what I want to see for him.

FULGURIX (CTizzard/Munir/Souede) fulgurix finished 2and in a novice hurdle at Pau for D.cottin finishing just behind the munir/side owned Fors fortuna Winning connections must like the winner, as they have since dipped into the market to buy fulgurix and send him to colin tizzard. Fulgurix will retain his novice status for the season ahead, I really like him as a long term prospect, he is a big imposing type, he was prominent throughout however positioned widest of all, and subsequently give me the most to do. He is not a slick 2 mile hurdler in the mould of buveur d’air he jumped his hurdles like fences, giving them a bit of air and comfortably cleared them each time, and he stayed very well to the line. To me he is very much in the mould of ALLAHO. FULGURIX will be a nice staying novice hurdler for the season ahead, he is a winner in waiting, and should have little problem getting of the mark in a 3m maiden hurdle, long term he should make a lovely chaser, where his size, scope and jumping ability will be seen to best use. For me he’s deffinately one worth following for Both the season ahead, And long term.

NIMIX DE JUILEYpaul nichols/ JP McManus. Nimix de juliey won a 2M2f hurdle race at Strasbourg back in the 20th september 2018 for J. Paulen beating elegant start who has won a hurdle race and a whole host of cross country races. Nimix de juiley had Since been purchased by JP and sent to paul Nicholls. he settled well behind the leaders, jumped well, took up the lead possibly slightly early going for home and stated just on top at the line. I personally see him operating over 2 miles. He has lost his novice status, so if he is sent out over further than 2 miles to achieve his handicap mark, the drop back to 2 could see improvement and would make him an interesting betting prospect.

HA D’OR ricci/mullins. Just like grand bornard who was purchased out of last years renewal. Ha D’or ran at sennones in the PRIX PROSPER CHARLES over 2300m on the flat, this time for Laurent viel. Beating HURRICK DES OBEAUX by 6.5L. There is yet to be a winner out of the race after plenty of runs, so they have taken a chance with the manner of Ha d’or’s victory. Settled right at the back throughout, on the turn for home he was well ridden, there wasn’t an instant change of gear, but he found plenty off the bridle and stayed on well, the further they went, the more comfortable he was going to win. He has since moved to closutton for the combo of mullins/Ricci. And its yet to be seen what he can achieve over hurdles. He may be given a triumph hurdle campaign (where stayers do well). But Whatever he does over the minimum distance, he’s worth noting long term, with imo improvement able to be found as he goes out in trip.

Both GANNAT and her stablemate GENOLA I’m lead to believe are open for private sale, and regardless of that, they are currently being targeted towards the mares novice hurdle at the Cheltenham festival for current trainer Alain couetil. As we saw in the daily tips section, He rolled the dice last week and GANNAT won her grade 1 nicely. The pair of them are worth noting as they come out of bumper company into mares novice hurdle races in the near future. They both have very solid form, Either or both may even end up in a top yard on these shores shortly. It will be interesting to see, if in deed both do make it to the mares nov. Either or both imo would have a roll to play.

GAILLARD DU MESNIL W PMullins. On a similar form line to the pair above gaillard du mesnil is a novice hurdler to follow for the season ahead. With 6 runs in AQPS races already on the board, it will be interesting to see what he can do over hurdles.

“He’s going to Willie of course,” said Boulard. “He’s a lovely horse by a very good sire in Saint Des Saints. He wasn’t cheap, but nothing is. He looks like he could make into a nice chaser one day. The success of French horses has been amazing, and we are paying for it, and them, now.”

FILS D’OUDAIRIES  Joseph O’Brien/ Mike grech. Fils d’oudaries  opened his account at Auteuil over hurdles on his third attempt, although he was very arguably lucky to come on top that day.

Flamant star commanded a hefty lead throughout, setting a strong gallop  with fils d’oudaries the head of the chasing pack,  as he briefly  looked round to see his rivals hard ridden. Behind, the jockey of Flamant star must have though he had obtained an irreversible lead and duly let him pop the last in his own  time and coast home by the rail, however it wasn’t to be to victory, as not until he took a 2nd look around late on in the run in, when it was all too late, did he realise that Kevin nabet had galvanised  fils d’oudaries, and was upside his mount, after finding plenty off the bridle and  staying on dourly to achieve what looked like an unlikely victory.

He was subsequently, Sold privately to Mike grech and sent to Joseph obrien in Ireland after originally being bought back for €200,000 at the Arqana Autumn Sales.

The vendor is no stranger, having provided Joseph previously with the likes of fakir d’oudaries, front view and darasso.

Fils d’oudaries himself, is a big backwards individual and will only improve in time.
He will certainly enjoy the step up in trip, and since he has lost his Novice status over hurdles, he is expected to turn into a long-distance chaser.  With a test of stamina deffinately being his forte.

PONT DU GARD  Joseph O’Brien/ Jp mcmanus.
Pont Du Gard posted a solid performance on his debut over hurdles at Compiègne last November for Guillame Macaire, finishing a close up third,  he was held up thr⁸oughout and did all his best work late, he looked to me, to be a potentially real dour stayer in the future that could be seen over distances of up to 3 miles in Novice hurdles. If that’s not where he starts, it’s the trip imo where in time, he’ll certainly be seen to his best.

He was originally bought as a yearling at the 2017 Arqana Autumn sales for €71,000,  however this time, he was exported to Ireland from macaire  on the 14th of December for quite the fee.  It  Will be interesting to see what they are getting for there money, and most importantly, what  trip he starts over. With improvement set to come, up in trip.

Looking at a few of the Willie mullins Novice mares for the season ahead.

ECHOES IN RAIN, GJOUMI and HOOKUP all ran last season in a juvenile hurdle, pitched straight  into a grade 3 on hurdles debut Gjoumi ran pretty well imo in a race in which she wouldn’t have liked the ground, and can certainly improve on what she achieved there, hookup still retains her status and has more pace than the afore mentioned.      Echoes in rain I had high expectations of, after Reportedly working well early season, she was pitched into the deep end  herself, and I’d be willing to forgive her that run without wanting to back her at a short price in a maiden hurdle.
Another purchased from France at the dame time as the other 3,which they decided to keep for this season is GAULOISE. Now, I believe owned by Kenny alexander, (who has previously had elfile with Willie) won an aqps race at lignieres comfortably beating  Gamin original who was since  also sold to made the move over to Willie. Gamin original was the choice of Paul townend in the grade 3 mentioned above that was won by the subsequent triumph winner burning victory but also contained gjoumi and Hook up as runners.
It’s worth noting when they bought Elixir d’ainay, they rated him very highly and subsequently took a chance on  El Morano who was 2nd in the same race.    Time will only tell if the reason they dipped back into the market to acquire gamin original is because GAULOISE was working well, or not.

MONMIRAL. P Nicholls/J.Hales monmiral won a juvenile hurdle at auteuil over 2Miles for francois nicolle beating HELL RED (P Nicholls/Martin broughton&F). The pair have moved over to ditcheat to join the Paul Nicholls team. I would be strongly assuming that both are set to be campaigned down the triumph hurdle route. At this early stage the form dosent look outstanding, however they are open to any ammount of improvement having had just the 1 run each. Monmiral got 1st run and hell red chased him home with the pair staying on very well to the line to finish clear, the further they went, imo the further they would have finished clear of the pack behind, so you cant take the form literally, you need to stay well to win the the triumph and both did that. 2M looks good for Monmiral and although hell red will likely be campaigned over 2M in the season ahead, I can see him potentially stretching out in distance amd jumping a fence in time. where as hell red seems a sharper more compact type for juvenile hurdling. One or both could well step up in class into the likes of the summit juvenile hurdle at doncaster, on the path to the likely destination of the triumph hurdle.

GRAND BORNARD (mullins/ricci). Grand bornard ran at sennones in the PRIX PROSPER CHARLES over 2300m on the flat for  A. COUETIL, he was held up in the rear pair throughout, where after the bend on the run for home, he was pulled out for clear daylight, stayed home well and picked off all those infront of him to win a shade cosily from gold link and gunfight he was since purchased by rich ricci to join the Willie mullins stable. Gold link ran well finishing 2nd and franking the form on his next start, himself being beaten by GRAND D’ESPAGNE who has also gone across the water to Ireland himself, the 3rd home behind the afore mentioned pair, GEMIRANDE has since moved over to Gb having won a chase at pau. All 3 will have there Novice status over hurdles for the season ahead. With grand bornand having now had approaching a year to acclimatise to life at clossutton to learn his new trade over hurdles. All 3 will be interesting to follow for the seasons ahead, and in particular whether Grand bornand turns out to be in the mould of Melon or in fact of a less esteemed stablemate in last seasons Novice, John snow. Or dare I say it, the one time supreme favourite senewalk.

I’M A GAME CHANGER. Has Disappointed badly in recent starts, however Is a little hard to read in relation to whether he’d be seen to better effect over 2m4 or not, as he travel so sweetly.
I’m not sure if he’s being brought along to peak over 2m. Or gordon’s purposely keeping him over 2 miles to get the mark he now has, and then step up in trip to exploit that. Either way, his mark will tumble.

He will be called all the names under the sun, he will disappoint at short prices, however I have no doubt that, when you least expect it, he has a big handicap pot in him off his current mark in the season ahead at a big price, Imo leaving him one to follow.

FANTASIO D’ALENE. He’s ran consistently well in bumpers for Gordon elliot throughout the season often making the running or taking up the running early on. He has kept very good company racing against the likes of dewcup and uhtred, he then stepped up into even deeper waters in the Goffs Future Stars INH Flat Race where he made the running and ran as well as can be expected in a very high quality race where he dropped back in the final 2f to finish just over 17 lengths behind Appreciate it. The reason he interests me, is like defi bleu (another Gordon elliot horse) he was thrown into the deep end over hurdles at the tail end of the season in a race of which he didn’t belong 1st time up over obstacles. He finished dead last and didn’t show a hint of the ability of which he did in bumpers as did defi bleu on his first start over hurdles. The only thing Fantasio d’alene did achieve was one run over the minimum trip towards a handicap mark. I’m not saying he is going to turn into a graded horse in Novice company or reach the Cheltenham festival. However Imo he is a horse worth keeping an eye on when he comes out of Novice company into the handicap ranks with his sights lowered, he can be priced up at attractive odds overnight and show a higher level of form over obstacles to align with what he achieved consistently in bumpers against good quality opposition.

GENTLEMEN DE MEE. (Jp mcmanus) formerly trained in France by G macaire and now in England. Gentleman De Mee ran twice for his previous trainer finishing 2nd both times and therefore retains his valuable Novice status to be used on these shores. Since his debut at sennones the 1st 3rd and 4th have since gone on to win. In the race itself he tracked the leader throughout travelling well switched inside and took up the lead going to the last along side the eventual winner and wasn’t given a hard time as the winner edged ahead aided by the rail.

A month later he headed to compiegne where he attempted to make all and jumped very well throughout and was narrowly beaten by F Nicole’s Magrudy who was ridden more aggressively to assert at the finish. Gentlemen de Mee’s jumping experience should stand him in good stead over here and it will be interesting to see how he stacks up as a Novice for the season to come, it should be noted that already having 2 runs, only one more is required to enter the handicap ranks. But I’m sure after paying £280,000 they should well have higher aspirations to begin with. He has been running over 2miles1 but settles well during his races so he may step up in trip over time.

GLOIRE D’ATHON won on debut in an aqps flat race at cholet by 2L for : A. COUETIL before being purchased by Cheveley park and moving to Ireland for Henry de bromhead. The 3rd horse GORKI D’AIRY has subsequently moved to W P Mullins from the race. The form itself doesn’t look strong at this stage however which ever horse comes out first may give an indication of what to expect from the other. It will be interesting to see how they adapt to hurdles and what they can achieve.

GARS ET NOIR (WP mullins/donnely) After unseating his jockey on his debut, in Pau, he won  the Prix Ventriloque Hurdle at Auteuil beating GINGEMBRE MENTHE. Previously bred by guy cherel who has provided Willie with the likes of Allaho and Saint roi, he was declared  to be exported over to Ireland on April 10, to  join Willie mullins , like Franco de port last year he will not be eligible to run in any Novice races at the spring festivals however they will likely be looking to go down the handicap route as they did this year with Franco de port (who went off a well backed 10/1 for the coral Cup). Gars de noir was running over 2m2 at Auteuil, he settled well tracking the leaders, before he was was ridden to go across the track approaching the last to make use of the inside rail, kept up to his work he stayed on well and asserted in the closing stages to win. I personally would see him showing the best of his ability when he steps up in trip over further than 2 miles and therefore once he receives is mark would be looking at 2m4 and 2m5 handicap hurdles.

DAYLIGHT KATIE started of nicely in mares novice hurdles, where the form has worked out nicely. . She was to be targeted at the mares novice hurdles the Cheltenham festival, where I personally believe that she would have had a big part to play.

“We got a bit of a fright, . At the third last she stopped to a standstill and she definitely lost three or four lengths. To be fair, if she had winged that she probably wouldn’t have come off the bridle – he could have sat on her and filled her. That’s jump racing, you have to jump it and she didn’t jump it. Thankfully she is okay. She’ll go for all those mares’ races now.”

Unfortunately she picked up an injury beforehand, she still could have made it, however they decided to give her the extra time and to go for the grade 1 at fairyhouse (pre covid.) I personally see her going down an almost identical route to Black Tears, culminating in the same possibility of a big handicap hurdle victory. For me, shes deffinately one to note and I have high expectations.

Please note that I do have a Members version of NH horses to follow.
